SG WELCOME MESSAGE
TGIMUN 2026 WELCOMING REMARKS – by Secretary General
Dear Delegates and Guests,
It is with immense honor and profound excitement that I welcome you to the sixth session of The Gambia International Model United Nations (TGIMUN) General Assembly (GA) brought to you by Coaches United Nations Simulation (CUNS) under the theme: “Your Vote, Your Voice: Youth Participation In Democratic Election Processes”.
On July 10th and 11th, 2026, we will gather not just to talk about the world’s problems, but to hone and polish the skills needed to solve them. As the late UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan once said: “You are never too young to lead, and you should never doubt your capacity to triumph where others have not.”
This General Assembly is your chance to step into the role of patriotism and see the world through a different lens.
The 2026 General Assembly Session aims to empower youth for civic responsibility. With major elections scheduled across the globe in more than 40 nations in 2026, including The Gambia Presidential election scheduled to occur on Saturday, December 5th, 2026; it is vital that young people are equipped to fulfill their civic rights and duties.
We aim to prepare you to take your place in your nation’s democratic journey, ensuring you have the tools to engage peacefully and responsibly in the electoral process.
Why Participate?
Attending a Model UN General Assembly is more than just a gathering of young people; it is a step toward global citizenship and leadership. By participating, you will:
- Build Confidence: Practice speaking in public and defending your ideas.
- Solve Complex Problems: Work with others to find answers to pressing & significant global issues.
- Master Negotiation: Learn how to find common ground, even when you disagree with other delegate’s points of view.
- Think Globally: Understand how decisions made in one country or continent can affect people on the other side of the planet
- Build Lifelong Networks: Connect with like-minded young people dedicated to making a positive impact.
As you prepare, I want to highlight the apt message found in the writings of Dr. Margaret Ellis: “Influence is a seed and every leader was born with this seed inside of them”. We encourage you to complete your application to secure your seat at the 2026 TGIMUN GA and explore our website to learn more about our program.
We look forward to hearing and seeing your influence take a leap at the 6th session of The Gambia International Model United Nations (TGIMUN) General Assembly (GA) with Coaches United Nations Simulations (CUNS).
Sincerely,
Bernadette Mendy
Secretary-General, Coaches United Nations Simulations (CUNS)
